Goal: Removal of the excess eyelid skin and prominent periorbital
fat pads of the upper and lower eyelids. Both upper and
lower eyelids can be treated together or separately.
Surgical technique: After precise preoperative markings,
eliptical excision of the excess skin of the upper lid is
performed, together with the muscle strip excision and removal
of the fat pad if necessary. Subciliary incision of the
lower lid is placed without cutting lashes and in case there
is no skin excess, lower eyelid fat pads can be removed
only through the transconjuctival approach, without external
scars.
Duration and anesthesia: This procedure is performed under
local anesthesia, with or without sedation, upper eyelids
in 30 and lower within 45 minutes.
Recovery: Ice bags are applied few hours after the operation
and cold cammomile gauzes next few days to reduce swelling.
Stitches are removed in 5-6 days.
Rare complications: Eyelid swelling and bruises which could
last 5-7 days. Inability to close eye fully or epiphora
are temporary disorders.
