Goal: To improve contour and to add volume to the thin
lips, as well as to correct lip asymmetry.
Surgical technique: Lips can be enlarged with the use of
autologous tissue like fat tissue (most often), dermis,
pericranial tissue, part of the muscle or tendon or by injecting
syntetic products (collagen, polyacrylamide, silicone gel,
hyaluronic acid etc.).
Duration and anesthesia: Lip augmentation with autologous
(own) tissue is performed under local anesthesia and lasts
about 20-30 minutes, while for the injection of comercial
products anesthesia is not necessary, since it is performed
with very thin insuline needle.
Recovery: One day after the procedure a patient should
refrain from intensive lip movements, i.e. laughing or talking
too much. Since the degree of fat and collagen resorption
is unpredictable and the syntetic products are often easily
dispersed into surrounding tissues, the procedure is likely
to be repeated after some time to obtain better and long-lasting
result.
Rare complications: Mild edema of the lips.
Check photography before and after intervention.
